August 02, 2017 – Work starts on our project to convert and extend stone ruin in rural Ayrshire

Our project to convert and extend this beautiful stone ruin in the Ayrshire landscape started on site this week. The first stage of the project is to remove the internal components added when the building was used as a cow byre. The stone walls will be consolidated, raked out and repointed. New openings will be formed in the existing structure, while historic openings that have been filled in will be re-opened.

July 25, 2017 – Renovation and intervention in Pollokshields starts on site

Our project to renovate a sandstone villa in Glasgow started on site this week.

The project is located within the Pollokshield’s conservation area and looks at re-planning and re-focusing the kitchen, dining, sitting and utility spaces on to the villa’s garden. The proposal includes a new zinc clad, glazed extension between the one storey building and the two storey villa, to allow the building to function better, bring more light into the home and create a connection with the garden..

July 18, 2017 – Newhouse longlisted  for RIBA: House of the Year

Delighted that our Newhouse of Auchengree project has been longlisted for the Royal Insitute of British Architect’s House of the Year Award.

The RIBA House of the Year is awarded to the best new house designed by an architect in the UK. The shortlist and winner will be announced later this year as part of Grand Designs: House of the Year, a special four-part Channel 4 TV series presented by Kevin McCloud.

June 22, 2017 – RIBA National Award Win for Newhouse of Auchengree

Pleased to announce that our Newhouse of Auchengree project has won a RIBA National Award, which are given to buildings across the UK recognised as significant contributions to architecture. We are delight to be one of only three buildings in Scotland to have won this prestigious award.

The judges commented “Born out of careful research into the unique vernacular of North Ayrshire this is a project with a strong sense of place – truly a building of its landscape.”

June 16, 2017 – RIAS Award Win and Shortlisted for Emerging Scottish Architect of the Year

We had a fantastic evening at the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland’s Award ceremony on Wednesday evening, where our Newhouse of Auchengree project won an RIAS Award and Ann was nominated for the RIAS ‘Emerging Scottish Architect of the Year’

Newhouse is now one of twelve projects shortlisted for the  Andrew Doolan Award for Best Building in Scotland. The ‘Doolan’ is the most prestigious award for architecture in Scotland.  The winner will be announced in November at a reception at the Museum of Scotland.

June 09, 2017 – Shortlisted for Saltire Housing Award 

Our Newhouse of Auchengree project has been shortlisted for a Saltire Housing Award. The awards were established in 1937, making them Scotland’s oldest design awards. We were delighted to meet the Saltire judging panel and show them around the house last month. Winners will be announced on the 21 June 2017.

 David Jamieson commented: “We have seen a wide range of housing types which reveal great enthusiasm and expertise in practice to make excellent homes.  All of the designers and owners of these shortlisted entries should be congratulated for getting this far in the process”

May 26, 2017 – Winner of Best Residential Building,Scottish Design Awards

Delighted to announce that our Newhouse of Auchengree project has won the Best Residential project at the Scottish Design Awards. We attended the awards dinner last night with our clients Michael and Sally Law.

The judges comments included: ‘Domestic Finery’, ‘Stellar submission, a lot of love’. ‘A really interesting interpretation of the history of the land to deliver the brief. Still contemporary and finely detailed.’

April 21, 2017 –  New Community Space on the Isle of Kerrera

Isle of Kerrera We have been appointed by the Isle of Kerrera Development Trust to undertake a feasibility for a new community space on this beautiful Island. We are really excited about commencing this project and will be out on Kerrera for several days in May, to meet and work with the residents, to map the island and undertake community workshops.

The Island of Kerrera is an Inner Hebridean Island, located close to Oban. If you have not been to the island then we would certainly recommend a visit.

April 04, 2017 – Shortlisted for an RIAS Award 2017

JANUARY 06, 2017 – Studio Signs up to support Architecture in the Hoose

Architect in the hooseWe have signed up to support ‘Architect in the Hoose 2017’. The scheme is very simple and all contributions go to charity – architects across Scotland are offering hour-long consultations to the public in return for a £30 donation to the Architects Benevolent Society (ABS). The ABS helps people of all ages who have experienced redundancy, illness, accident or bereavement. One in six of those cared for is under the age of 35, and half of those helped by the Society are below retirement age. November 7, 2016:  GIA Design Awards for ‘Newhouse of Auchengree’

The judges described the project as; “A house with a strong sense of place and location, which made the architectural experience ever more complex. Undoubtedly a great place to live & a fantastic piece of architecture”. The awards were presented at the Glasgow Institute of Architects annual dinner on Friday night. September 19, 2016:  Doors Open Day: The Life of Neale Thomson and the Crossmyloof Bakery.  

Neale Thomson walking tourWe were out on Sunday leading walking tours around the Southside of Glasgow, with our lovely neighbours The Glad Cafe.The tours looked at the life of philanthropist Neale Thomson (1807 – 1857), his legacy, the Crossmyloof bakery and the impact Thomson had on worker’s rights & working conditions in Scotland & further afield.The tour finished with a sour bread making demonstration by McCune Smith. 15.05.15 – ‘Propping Installation’ finds a new home at the Scottish Maritime Museum

We’re very pleased to announce that our ‘Propping Through Riverside’ Installation is to form part of the Scottish Maritime Museum’s permanent art collection. The installation was exhibited at the ‘Drawing (On) Riverside’ Exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum was made in collaboration with artist Patricia Cain and built by Joshua Brown with lots of assistance from GalGael, Ferguson Shipyards and support from Arts and Business Scotland and many other people. Since being exhibited at Kelvingrove the piece, which explores ideas of industry & placemaking with a particular focus on shipbuilding has been stored at Ferguson Shipyards. This week the piece was moved to it’s new permanent home in Irvine, North Ayrshire.

MAY 01, 2014 – Film about the Albert Drive Project opens Cinemap, at the Tramway Theatre.

A film produced to document the Albert Drive Project will open the Cinemap event at the Tramway Theatre, on 23 May 2014 at 7pm. Cinemap is a three day event showcasing films relating to or taking inspiration from the Albert Drive Project and is part of the Southside Film Festival.

APRIL 15, 2014 – Rural Master Plan for a three/four house development in Lochaber, Highlands

We are delighted to be appointed to carry out a feasibility study and master plan for a three house development in a beautiful rural site in the Highlands. Each site is unique and requires a bespoke response while still responding collectively to the other buildings, site, orientation and views. Studio Director Ann Nisbet commented “It’s a complex but fantastic site with wonderful views of Ben Nevis, it’s also very close to “home” being just a few miles from where I grew up.”

FEBRUARY 20, 2014 – New House of Auchengree projects starts on site

Construction has started on our “New House of Auchengree” project. A contemporary farm house located within North Ayrshire, an equal distance between Dalry and Beith. This house was one of the first ” Single House’s in the Countryside” to gain planning permission under the new North Ayrshire Planning Guidance. This 320sqm house and outbuilding is being constructed by 3B Construction and is due to be completed at the end of 2014.

05.07.12 – Architectural Installation shortlisted for Arts and Business Scotland Award

Our collaborative project with artist Patricia Cain and Joshua Brown, has been shortlisted for an Arts and Business Scotland Award.

‘Ferguson’s Shipbuilders Ltd joined forces with artist Patricia Cain and Ann Nisbet to create a six and a half meter sculpture that celebrates construction old and new on the Clyde. The shared skills of the partnership enabled Cain and Nisbet to create a complex form using traditional shipbuilding methods. This highly acclaimed piece of work re-engaged traditional Scottish industry with the arts and re-engaged the public with shipbuilding on the Clyde.’
